Pictures from Ormond

Commencement Dinner was last Saturday, signifying the return (finally) to full life of Ormond College.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
It was an opportunity for the returning students to meet the freshers, and also for people who didn't get to see each other during the long break to get reacquainted again. It also marked the official beginning of the first semester of 2007.

That's a rare picture of myself, taking a picture of food I suppose.

That was our appetizer: antipasto, whatever that means. I'm not putting up a picture of the main meal because it was a crap main meal and not worth putting up at all. At least the antipasto looked nice.

After dinner, there was a smoko, which is basically a party with drinks and a dance floor to dance in. Its not my thing, so I didn't go for that, and thus I have no pictures of it.

My friends did go however, and after that, we gathered at Jian Ming's room to celebrate Sherreen's 19th birthday.

Sherreen's the one with the jumper that looks like a bumble bee.

That's her cake. It's the 3rd chocolate cake picture I've put up within these 2 weeks.

The past few days also featured the return to Ormond of the rest of my friends; people who make life at Ormond worthwhile. =) Jon Sum, together with his brother Ben who's a fresher, came back on Sunday night.

This is Supa, who actually came back before I did, cause he's a dentistry student.

And finally today: The Return of the Hongkies; Janice and Eileen.

I've recently been forced to perform 2 more changes to my blog:
1) Reduced the number of posts on the main page
2) Slightly reduced the size of the pictures that I am going to post from now on

The changes were necessary because loading that many pictures of that size in one go uses up a lot of my internet quota here in Ormond.

Anyhow, here are some random pictures.

My new favourite drink. At AUD 1.50 a bottle its the cheapest drink around (apart from water, of course...tsk tsk), and you can get it for cheaper if you buy it in bulk. It is also cool. Why is it cool? Because it comes in glass bottles, and for a non-beer drinker (me), grabbing it out of the fridge, using a bottle opener to open it, and hearing the satisfying fizz before gurgling it down is oh-so-cool.

While we're on the subject of bottles, I just bought a new bottle today, because apparently, reusing mineral water bottles is "not good for you". However, this bottle here is new and green and cool. And if someone were to steal it from me I would be majorly pissed.

Why is Kalip staring at me? I didn't do anything wrong.

This here is Bourke (It's spelt wrongly up there ;p) Street. On Saturdays they have street performers performing for free. Usually there are musicians as well and if you like their music, you can give them some money or buy their CD.

George Kamikawa is from Japan and he is a country blues artist. I saw him last week, and he was playing the slide guitar and the harmonica. If you look at his fourth finger in the picture and you'll see some metallic thing there. First time I've seen someone play the slide guitar, and it was amazing.

And this is Santos Bonacci and his band, playing flamenco guitar. No singing is involved, and its one of my favourite forms of guitar playing. Put 3 people playing at the same time and you get magnificent music. I actually saw them 2 years ago, when I was first in Melbourne, and I was so impressed that I bought 2 of their CDs. Today, I saw them again, but I wonder why they are still selling the same CDs. Don't they have any new ones?

Finally, this is an amoeba in the lecture theater.

Since its finally the 22nd of February, I thought I'd just change the image of my blog slightly. Not too much though, I'm not good enough yet. But I'm learning.

Blogging is a tedious thing.

Good night.

Liverpool v Barcelona at 6.45 am.

Please don't let me down.

[Edited 8.40 a.m.]

You'll Never Walk Alone!!!

Barcelona 1 - 2 Liverpool
Bellamy and Riise!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch the match on SBS as I did not know how to work Ormond's TV :(

However, I'm eternally pessimistic and now I'm wondering if perhaps it would've been better for them to draw or lose, cos now, Barca are going to come to Anfield in 2 weeks time with extra energy and vigour. If they didn't lose they may be more complacent.

Anyhow, I'll enjoy it while I can.

"Bellamy will chase Valdez wif golf club." ;p

I just got back from another birthday celebration the 2nd night in a row ;p Went to the Korean BBQ restaurant on La Trobe Street, Oriental Spoon. 22 people turned up for my 22nd birthday, which would make this sentence a perfect one were it the 22nd of the 2nd month today, but unfortunately, its the 21st.

Here's the food:

I can't remember what the last 2 dishes were called though. Korean names. The meat dish sounded something like Fong Sai Yuk.

And then we ate another cake. A huge one this time. :)

And finally, with a tagline lifted from the shirt that my good friend (who's in UK right now ;p) bought me, which I was wearing right then:

Just to add in, this is what I got. Someone's gotta help me drink them. Heh. :)

Went out with some friends yesterday night for an early celebration of my birthday ;p Supa, Sherreen, Meisze, Engkiat, and Alex. Unfortunate that I did not take a picture with them.

We went to Don.na Mon.ya. The place where you get the BEST Unagi Don so far I've seen anywhere. Best in terms of amount and presentation and taste. Fantastic. Plus, the set cost 22 dollars. 22 is a good number. But the picture didn't turn out to be that fantastic though. Hmm. Wasn't able to capture the essence of the Unagi Don set. Nevertheless, here it is.

Went to catch A Good Shepherd in the cinema's after that, since it was a Tuesday and the movies were cheaper, and it had Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie in it, but it was a terrible movie. Horrendous. I think its because we expected something more than an autobiography of sorts, we weren't able to appreciate what the movie was trying to show us, namely the sacrifices made by one of the founders of the CIA. But if you want to waste 3 hours of your life, go for it.

This obtained from Rotten Tomatoes about the movie:
"
Robert De Niro made up for lost time by making "The Good Shepherd," a film that feels like it takes 13 years to watch. That's an exaggeration. The sprawling, 160-minute epic only feels like it takes seven hours."

Oh yeah, this is the cake that they bought for me.

Chinese New Year 1st Day

And for the official day of CNY, we went to Kalip's house! For the first time in two years!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
We ate some good food cooked by his mum.

I'd say that an Angpao is always welcome.

And look!

A Nintendo Wii! He only had Wii Sports and one controller though, so a couple of us spent most of our time playing Boxing.

Of course, the Nintendo Wii wasn't the only source of entertainment.

Mahjong.

We had fun.

Chinese New Year's Eve

What did I do for Chinese New Year's eve? My first even away from home. Well, I joined some friends to go EAT.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
We hung around Chinatown for a while before proceeding to Crown, where I met lots of other friends as well.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I also got 2 of my friends to do a funny pose.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
In between all of that was a looooooooooooong walk to Docklands, and a ride in the taxi to Crown rushing to see the fireworks, which was nonexistent anyhow.

Sher Reen and Mei Sze finished their summer course today, so Supa and I joined them on an excursion to the city for dinner and a movie.

Dinner at Blue Sky. Picture spoilt by a random who asked me to remove his face. Serves him right. ;p

Amazing.

Not many choices; Music and Lyrics or Ghost Rider?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Quite a good feel good movie. Love the music in the show.

This for the amazingly hot day today. Walked back to Ormond to save a tram ticket.

Interesting graffiti that we saw. Heh.

Horrible fonts

Just some random pictures.

Some of you would say that there are some horrendous fonts on certain pictures.

I wouldn't disagree.

This is where I stay in Melbourne. Of course, I'm not in this building. I'm in some other building that does not look so nice.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Ooo lunch!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Huh? Three to what?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Due to some function in the hall we had bbq for dinner a couple of days ago.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Super oily, super tasty.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Expensive.

I discovered that you can add any concentrate to 100 Plus (or any other plain isotonic drink), and it turns out awesome.

I think I need to start using a better camera.

Road safety

Apparently someone died on Lygon St a couple of weeks back. An accident with a car I think. There's a couple of these posters saying "Remember Damian" around Lygon St.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
People need to be more careful on the road.
